OSPRE Releases Flagship Report on the Future of Stability in West Africa and the Sahel
The Organisation for Strategic Preparedness and Resilience (OSPRE) has released a new flagship report examining the evolving security, governance, climate, and socio-economic risks shaping the future of stability in West Africa and the Sahel.
Titled The Future of Security and Stability in West Africa and the Sahel, the report highlights how overlapping and interconnected risks are increasing the likelihood of complex and cascading crises across the region. It emphasizes that traditional crisis response approaches are no longer sufficient to address emerging challenges.
Drawing on strategic foresight and risk analysis, the report identifies key drivers of instability, including governance deficits, climate stress, demographic pressures, and displacement. It calls for stronger early warning systems, anticipatory action, and coordinated regional preparedness to prevent crises before they escalate.
“This report underscores the urgent need to shift from reactive crisis management to proactive preparedness,” said Chris Ngwodo, Director General at OSPRE. “Investing in early warning, prevention, and resilience is no longer optional — it is essential.” The report is intended to support policymakers, regional institutions, development partners, and civil society actors working to strengthen stability and resilience across the region.
